During the week of the international Milan Design Week 2014, Valcucine and Dotdotdot revolutionised the way the kitchen is designed with "The kitchen becomes open", a workshop to reinterpret Meccanica, a Demode brand designed by Valcucine.
The Valcucine showroom in Corso Garibaldi 99 was transformed into a proper digital manufacturing workshop. A marathon of brains and an incubator of ideas to give birth to new projects and solutions that develop or modify the concept of the kitchen. "The kitchen becomes OPEN!" is a project created with the aim of coming together in a participatory and collaborative design on the theme of the kitchen. During the workshop, the designers worked in close contact with the Valcucine technical office, the Dotdotdot design studio and a team of experts. During the working days, there were meetings and debates, open to the public, with important guests invited to share their knowledge, skills and experience, such as Giulio Iacchetti, Stefano Maffei, Dario Buzzini, Massimo Menichinelli, Enrico Bassi, Zoe Romano, Francesco Zurlo and the Arduino team, who actively supported the workshop.
The executive files of the project are published in open source mode, available to all, under the Creative Commons CC by-nc-sa license, i.e. with permission to distribute, modify, create derivative works from the original, but not for commercial purposes, acknowledging the authorship of the project.
